Fiona Hymns

Fiona grew up in Swanage, Dorset, where she pursued music from an early age. At 16 she started regular singing lessons, studying with Joanne Moore. At 18 she achieved grade 8 voice with distinction and won the Bournemouth Singer of Year prize in 2004.

Whilst studying for a BA in History at Royal Holloway University of London (from which she graduated, with first class honours in 2007), Fiona continued to pursue her vocal aspirations, studying with Christian Immler and singing regularly in the college’s chamber choir. She was an enthusiastic participant in the campus’ performance arts scene; highlights included the role of ‘Tessa’ in The Gondoliers and directing a production of The Pirates of Penzance.

Since leaving university Fiona has continued to develop as a freelance singer and vocal practitioner. In September 2008 she gained place on ‘Pulse’ at the Southbank Centre, the renowned one-year course for aspiring professional singers led by Mary King. This has lead to performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with Bellowhead, and the Royal Festival Hall for Takeover! with the Southbank Centre’s Emerging Artists in Residence. Alongside performing Fiona works at the Royal Academy of Music, and as a freelance vocal animateur.
